Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer. There are several steps that need to be taken. Please contact Katie Cope by pressing the button below. She will help you with the process as much as she can.

- First: Contact us
- Contact the Department of Emergency Medical Services at 757-385-1999. Inform them you would like to volunteer as an EMT. At that time you will be signed you up for a "New Member Orientation Meeting." This meeting will highlight the many facets of the Department and personally guide you though the application process.
- Second: Complete the following paperwork (done at the New Member Orientation meeting).
- 1. Membership Application
- 2. NCIC Form
- 3. Virginia DMV Form
- 4. Out of State DMV needs to provide the following:
- DMV record from state which you are license
- Have not been licensed in Virginia for past five (5) years
- 5. VCIN Form
- 6. Va Beach Occupational Health Physical ( appointments are discussed during orientation. all appointments are at no charge to applicant)
- 7. Fingerprint card (generally done the same day as the health physical appointment)
- Third: Only applies if you have previous EMS Training
- 1.Provide EMS Administration with copies of State of Virginia certification (i.e. First Responder, EMT, Shock Trauma Tech, Cardiac Tech or Paramedic).
- 2.Also a copy of current CPR certification (front & back of card - see below for type of CPR course required.
- 3.Any other certifications whether rescue or fire should be submitted. Acceptable CPR certifications:
- American Heart Association - Health Care Provider
- American Red Cross - Professional Rescuer ASHI
- CPR-Pro Medic First Aid - BLSPRO
- AAOS Professional Rescuer
- Forth: OSHA
- Register for next available Virginia Beach "OSHA " policies and procedures class. "OSHA" class is held at the EMS Training Center. Please contact the Training Center at 385-2970 to register.
- Fifth: Appproval
- Upon completion of the application process, the Chief of EMS will either approve or disapprove of the application
Approved applicants will be notified in writing. Approved applications will be forwarded to the appropriate Membership Coordinator to be brought before the rescue squad membership for vote as a probationary member.
- Sixth: ID
- Issuance of photo ID Badge and AIC booklet.
